so, i'm not purposefully trying to just disagree with you or anything, but i think david lynch is kind of trite. he seems like the obnoxious 12 year old who will answer "pie" to every math question because he's "just so random. i don't know why i'm so random," and his retard parents will condone it and think he's hysterical, and really, this kid just needs a good ass pounding to straighten him out, but no one will do it because it's just so funny to hear him say pie. ya, it ain't.
that's how lynch comes off to me, except he's old, and he thinks that being dark and perverse is deep, when really, it's predictable.
I don't think you are disagreeing at all, other than you not liking his stuff.
His style is random in a nightmarish fashion. There were times, especially in the movies, that I got pretty bored with the randomness; most of it is without any recognizable purpose.
I don't suppose I can really rationalize why I like it... Twin Peaks was the first of his stuff I watched, and I mostly liked it for the humor. I did like the weird/sci-fi stuff though, which allowed me to enjoy (for the most part) the movies.
